Women in Business: Credit Officer Finds Satisfaction in Helping Clients Succeed | New

Kyleen Baldwin of Nova Home Loans has made a name for himself in the local financial services industry.

Baldwin is the senior loan officer for Nova, and she has worked for them for five years. Prior to that, however, she had fifteen years of industry experience with Bank of America and Washington Federal.

A local woman who grew up in Parker, Baldwin said he had no real plans to go into the financial services business. She had been working in the restaurant business for several years when she decided she needed more stable and regular hours when her second child was on the way.

Baldwin started at Bank of America as a part-time cashier, and rose to full-time cashier, personal banker, assistant manager, and branch manager. When Washington Federal bought out the local B of A branch, Baldwin became their manager. It was around this time that she was trained to be a loan officer, as Washington Federal officials were also loan officers.

When Washington Federal closed its branch in Parker (the building is now occupied by CRIT Realty), Baldwin was looking for a new job. She said it was her friend, real estate agent David Plunkett, who put her in touch with Nova.

“I have to thank Dave Plunkett,” she said. “He introduced me to Nova Home Loans.

Baldwin said that if someone is looking to buy or refinance a home, Nova can help. They can also perform “cash out” refinances, where people can use a portion of the equity in their home.

One thing Nova cannot do if it finances the purchase of land without a house. On the flip side, Baldwin said if you build a house after buying land, they can help you with the financing.

In addition to conventional home loans, Baldwin said Nova manages loans through programs from the US Department of Agriculture, the Federal Housing Administration and the Veterans Administration.

Baldwin said now is a good time to buy a home because interest rates are low. She added that many regulations and guidelines have been added to prevent a housing market collapse as was seen in 2008.

Baldwin’s assistant is Hannah Honomichl. Baldwin said she was working to become a loan officer herself.

If anyone is interested in the financial services field, Baldwin said he should take math classes in high school, because that’s what a lot of the work involves.

Baldwin said she’s very happy to be in the financial services business, and it’s satisfying to be able to help people.

“I like working in financial services,” she said. “I have had clients for whom I have made three loans.

Nova Home Loans is located at 1317 Joshua Avenue, Suite M in the Joshua Street Mall. The office telephone number is 928-575-2021. Their fax number is 520-762-6067. Baldwin’s email is [email protected]
