Albert Rajram, the man who stole a quantity of items from a private plane at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri was today sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to committing the crime.
Rajram also known as the “Bunny” of Circuit Road, Timehri appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court Two.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of breaking and entering and theft. Rajram was sentenced to 36 months in prison on each count. The sentences will be executed simultaneously.
Police arrested Rajram on Monday in connection with the crime which took place between Wednesday October 26 and Friday October 28.
He was questioned during which he allegedly confessed to having committed the crime.
Stolen items, including alcoholic beverages and electronic items, were also recovered.
Stabroek News was told that Rajram told police he dug a hole under the CJIA’s perimeter fence and drove onto the airport tarmac.
Once he broke through the perimeter fence, he broke into the plane and stole the items.
Reports indicate that the aircraft with registration number N111RE arrived here last Wednesday afternoon. He parked near the Guyana Defense Force Air Corps.
This newspaper has learned that when the pilots returned last Friday to prepare the flight for takeoff, they discovered there was a breach in the plane’s main door.
An alert was immediately given and a search was carried out during which the objects were discovered missing.
The plane left Guyana for Texas, United States, on Friday. He transported officials from an international company here to attend a meeting.
