New Delhi: A father-daughter duo recently made Air Force history by flying in the same fighter formation.

Air Commodore Sanjay Sharma, who is a seasoned fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force, and his daughter Ananya Sharma, who was appointed as a fighter pilot in December 2021, flew in the same formation from Hawk-132 Advanced Jet Trainers (AJT) at Air Force Station, Bidar on May 30, 2022.

“The father-daughter duo made history on May 30, 2022, flew in the same formation as the Hawk-132 ace at AirForce Stn Bidar, where Flight Lieutenant Ananya Sharma is undergoing training before moving on to faster and more superior fighter jets from @IAF_MCC,” the IAF said. tuesday.

He further added that there has been no previous instance in the IAF where a father and daughter were part of the same formation for a mission. “They were comrades, who had complete trust in each other as other wingers would,” the statement added.

Air Commodore Sanjay Sharma was commissioned into the IAF fighter stream in 1989 and has had extensive experience in fighter operations, having commanded a Mig-21 Sqn as well as a fighter station from First line.

With the induction of the first batch of three female pilots, the IAF fighter stream was opened up to women in 2016.
